Europe : At CeBIT 2005, LG Electronics' Mobile Communications Company will unveil refined, cutting-edge mobile phones that have pocket-jewelry concept-based innovative designs and a combination of entertainment and convergence features. The company thus will demonstrate its technological prowess and well-prepared business capabilities to the European mobile handset market. LG Electronics' 3G mobile phones including the LG-U8150 model are compatible with GSM/GPRS networks, and also enable realtime communications through their video telephony function, a prime 3G feature. The dual folder designed 3G handsets have cutting-edge multimedia features such as VOD/AOD on a 260,000-color TFT-LCD, video recording, multimedia messaging service (MMS), and MP3. LG Electronics, which last year supplied 3G mobile phones to Hutchison Whampoa, Orange, O2, Telefonica Moviles and was selected as a supplier to Cingular Wireless, expects to achieve a rapid growth of over 100% compared to last year in Europe and the United States, and also to drastically boost its 3G brand awareness in the WCDMA mobile handset market with an estimated size of 50 million units in 2005. LG Electronics developed world's first terrestrial digital multimedia broadcast-receiving phone (model: LG-LT1000) and unveiled it last November. This model, equipped with the company's own-developed System on Chip (SoC), enables the reception of terrestrial multimedia broadcasts and mobile communications simultaneously. LG Electronics' terrestrial DMB phone drastically improved problems of the handset size and power consumption. The industry watchers said that the company has provided a momentum to lead the new multimedia-feature handset market which fuses broadcasting and communications, together with its satellite-based DMB phone (model: LG-SB100). At CeBIT, LG Electronics will showcase a wide variety of innovative products that have cutting-edge technologies and state-of-the-art designs, thus demonstrating its mobile phone technological prowess. The company is set to unveil those leading-edge products in the global market this year. The IM (instant messaging) phone (model: LG-F9100) enables the use of AOL, ICQ, and Yahoo messengers, and also was an 'iF Design Award' winner. The IM phone sports black refined designs, and has a QWERTY type keyboard (PC keyboard) sliding side-ways and allows users to enjoy messengers and e-mail anywhere, anytime. Launched in 1954, the 'iF Design Award' is designed to support products with superior designs and manage the system of developing products. The award, alongside the U.S. 'Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA),' boasts tradition and prestige in the industrial design circles. The award-winning products, as selected yearly, receive IF marks, and are presented to the audience through the CeBIT trade show, which is held in Hanover, Germany, annually. The 'iF Design Award' from International Forum Design, the world's authoritative industrial design association based in Germany, considers ten items for screening such as practicality, safety, durability, ergonomic consideration, originality, harmony with the environment, resources saving and reuse, visualization of usage and functions, high-quality design, and sensory and intellectual stimulus. Meanwhile, LG Electronics will introduce various premium models that are based on world-best technologies which have been unveiled or will be unveiled in the test bed mobile phone market of Korea, boosting the position of "Technology-savvy Korea." Gaining popularity of the crowd were LG Electronics' terrestrial DMB phone and satellite-based DMB phone, as well as its first 3D game phones (models: LG-SV360 and LG-KV3600) displayed in the booth which are embedded with a 3D acceleration chip and a horizontal QVGA-type (320×240) LCD and received comments that they implemented a true playing of 3D game on the mobile phone. In addition, LG Electronics showcased the OnePhone (model: LG-KF1000) embedded with a Bluethooth module supporting walkie-talkie and wire and wireless connection services, as well as 3 million-pixel camera phone, music phone, PDA phone, various VOD phones, and other technology-leading mobile phones.
