The MSM7200 solution also supports multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) for the cost-efficient broadcasting of multimedia content over existing UMTS networks. "The MSM7200 is broadening the scope of what a mobile handset can do, bringing a new generation of services to the wireless user that converge multiple features of consumer electronics into a single compelling device with new network capabilities making these services possible," said Alex Katouzian, senior director of product management for QUALCOMM CDMA Technologies. "We are excited about this next step in the development of wireless capabilities, mobile multimedia and UMTS technology as we look forward to its imminent commercialization." The MSM7200 solution for HSUPA/HSDPA/WCDMA and EDGE/GPRS/GSM (EGPRS) networks supports data rates of up to 7.2 Mbps on the downlink and up to5.76 Mbps on the uplink for speeds that are faster than wired broadband connections. By enabling uplink-intensive, data-intensive and low-latency applications, the MSM7200 chipset raises the bar for a wide range of entertainment, enterprise and multimedia services. Mobile users will benefit from a new seamless quality for 3D games, video files and web browsing with quicker downloading and uploading of email messages with large file attachments. Network operators can cost-effectively offer their subscribers the ability to receive compelling content such as news programs, traffic reports, television shows and movies on mobile handsets by leveraging the MBMS support featured on the MSM7200 solution to deliver high-quality video and audio content to a large number of users simultaneously without building a new network. The MSM7200 chipset is part of QUALCOMM's Convergence Platform of dual-core solutions, featuring an integrated ARM9(TM) modem processor and ARM11(TM) applications processor with integrated engines from the Launchpad(TM) suite for increased data throughput and enhanced multimedia performance, including: * Support for third-party operating systems to leverage and expand themarket for wirelessPDAs and Smartphones * Multiplayer gaming using advanced 3D graphics and sophisticated 3D audioeffects, high-quality digital image capture with camera support up to8.0 megapixels, and high-performance VGA video decoding and encodingcapabilities, all supported for NTSC/PAL TV output * Digital music playback with support for MP3, AAC/aacPlus(TM), EnhancedaacPlus, Windows Media(R) Audio and RealAudio(TM) file formats *
