Vlingo Offers Hands Free Use of BlackBerry Smartphones

7th May , 2009

US : Vlingo Corporation announced version 3.0 of Vlingo, offering a rich feature set that provides users with "hands-free" control of their BlackBerry smartphones. Using the power of voice, Vlingo already enables users to send and reply to emails and text messages, search the mobile Web, dial the phone, look up contacts, and launch built-in applications -- just by using their voice.

With Vlingo 3.0, users gain an enhanced text-to-speech read-back feature for easy hands-free confirmation of what was spoken, the ability to speak action requests such as "send," and support for wired headsets as well as many Bluetooth® headsets.

Version 3.0 of Vlingo is available now for many corporate BlackBerry® smartphone users with support for the BlackBerry® Storm(TM), BlackBerry® Bold(TM), BlackBerry® Curve(TM) 8900 and BlackBerry® Pearl(TM) Flip smartphones, making Vlingo available to more mobile users than ever before. Additionally, the BlackBerry Storm features a special version of the application, which is optimized for its touch screen interface.

"We introduced Vlingo less than a year ago and already millions of people are using it. We designed Vlingo to meet the real-time communications and multimedia needs of BlackBerry users on the go," said Dave Grannan, CEO of Vlingo. "With our latest version, we are excited to give users 'hands-free' control of their BlackBerry smartphones, simply by using the power of their voice."

Vlingo gives BlackBerry smartphone users the ability to power the most popular features by voice. They can simply press the side "convenience" key on their handset, which lets them speak commands into the smartphone. Vlingo 3.0 gives a user's voice the ability to:

* Send and reply to text messages with users who also have Vlingo

* Web search

* Dial the phone

* Send a "note to self"

* Facebook & Twitter status updates

* Tell A Friend

* Optional read-back of the full text or email message that was spoken

* Speak action requests such as "send" or "search"

* Launch native and third-party applications

BlackBerry smartphone users can get additional voice capabilities, including the ability to send and reply to text messages and emails to anyone for a one-time charge of $17.99. Existing users of Vlingo 2.0 can continue to use Vlingo 2.0 at no additional charge.

With Vlingo, users do not need to change how they speak or memorize a list of commands. They simply say what they want, how they want, and Vlingo captures the results -- word for word, almost instantaneously. Offering the most accurate system on the market that gets even better as more users join the community, Vlingo gives users the ability to freely mix typing and talking with no limits on what they can say.

Availability and Compatibility

Vlingo is available for the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Storm smartphones, as well as the BlackBerry Pearl, BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry® 8800 series smartphones. U.S., Canadian and UK users can get Vlingo on BlackBerry App World(TM) (www.blackberry.com/appworld) or go to http://www.vlingo.com/v2 to download directly from your PC).
