3G Operator Wins Financial Times World Communications Awards

Europe UK : 3 UK has been recognised as a global telecoms leader at the FT World Communications Awards 2006 by winning the Communications Innovation Content Award for SeeMeTV. The prestigious awards were voted for by an independent panel of industry thought-leaders including analysts and journalists and were designed to recognise excellence and innovation in the communications industry worldwide.

3 overcame stiff competition from a range of fixed line and mobile operators, as well as software and handset manufacturers, to take the award at a ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel in Central London.Judges were asked to vote for the company which has created a pivotal product, software or service that is set to change the face of the communications marketplace.Since the launch of it's user-generated content service in late 2005, SeeMeTV has had 12 million downloads and 20,000 monthly contributions, earning GBP275,000 for customers.

Bob Fuller, CEO 3 UK and Ireland said, "The challenge has always been to bring the power of the 3G network to the customer in ways they can really engage with it, so it is imperative that content is of the highest quality, engaging and easy to access."

We went on to say, "Awards such as this, coupled with the high usage figures for initiatives such as SeeMeTV, recognise that we are truly making the most of the power of our network to deliver the best possible services.Such recognition provides all-important impetus for 3 in order to keep pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved using mobile broadband."

The awards were held last night, November 21st.Judges on the panel included FT Technology and Telecoms writers and financial and technology industry analysts.
