US : EJL Wireless Research announces its third quarter 2008 China mobile handset production and shipment analysis report. Shipments of handsets into China for the third quarter increased by 8.1% when compared to the third quarter of 2007.

The China mobile handset analysis reports are issued on a quarterly and annual basis and provide a unique perspective on the production and sales of GSM and CDMA mobile handsets within the Chinese market. Mobile handset vendors analyzed include: Huawei, K-Touch, Lenovo, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Samsung, and ZTE.

"Nokia continued to dominate the GSM and overall handset market in China while struggling Motorola tries to hold onto third. Within the CDMA market, Samsung regained the top position from Huawei but the overall segment remains weak," says founder and President, Earl Lum.

Demand for Samsung GSM handsets in China continued to grow as shipments hit a record level in Q3, just shy of seven million units.

"Domestic Chinese handset suppliers captured 24% of GSM shipments and 31% of CDMA shipments in the third quarter," says Lum.
