Telian Announces 3G Handset

9th November , 2004

ASIA : Telian, a leading Korean handset design manufacturer, today announced the availability of the U-300, a UMTS/GSM/GPRS handset.

Building from its success as a leading 2G original design manufacturer to tier one OEMs and operators, Telian has introduced the availability of its first 3G handset. The U-300 is a multi-mode, multi-band handset that meets operator requirements worldwide. At the 3GSM World Congress earlier this year, Telian announced it had chosen PrairieComm as its UMTS supplier and designed the U-300 utilizing PrairieComm’s FronTier 110 3G reference phone platform.

“We are excited to be introducing this 3G handset to the OEM and carrier market,” said Hong Eu, President and CEO of Telian. “The U-300 is a full-featured UMTS handset offering, comparable in performance to commercially shipping products but trumps the competition in size, weight, and cost. It is the ideal handset with which to enter the market.”

U-300 Features:
Multi-band, multi-mode design
Tri-band GSM/GPRS
Single-band UMTS
Dimensions: 46.0 x 118.0 x 21.1mm
Size : 100cc in total volume, 100 grams
Screen : 176 x 220, 262K color, TFT internal display
VGA color image sensor (optional 1.3MP)
MPEG4 video-decode for streaming/playback
Yamaha-based, 40-polyphony MIDI
Option for application framework
UI, Browser, MMS, Java, VR
USB 1.1 and IrDA Data 1.2
16MB user storage space

Weighing less than 100 grams, the U-300 is a bar-type handset that includes all of the features consumers want like video streaming, a large 262K color TFT display, and a java platform to enable downloadable applications and games.

The phone is also highly customizable and includes 16MB of user storage for video clips, images, applications, and phonebook entries. Telian expects to commercialize the U-300 in the second half of 2005.
