: VIVO and Lucent Technologies announced the successful deployment
of a CDMA2000Ò 1X network in the Aracajú metropolitan
region and other cities in the state of Sergipe; the third-generation
(3G) service is available immediately. The Lucent-supplied network
significantly increases the voice capacity of VIVO's network and enables
the introduction of new data services such as e-mail and Internet
access at speeds of up to 144 kilobits per second.
Under the multi-million
dollar agreement for this project, Lucent provided new Flexent®
Modular Cell 4.0 Compact base stations and enhanced existing Lucent-supplied
base stations with channel cards and software to support CDMA2000
1X technology. With this new deployment, Lucent has deployed CDMA2000
1X networks for VIVO in the states of Sergipe, Espírito Santo
as well as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's largest markets.
"With the
implementation of CDMA2000 1X technology in Sergipe, our customers
will have access to mobile services with greater transmission speeds,
more security and quality," said Javier Rodriguez, vice president
of technology and networks for VIVO.
"Lucent's
solutions allow VIVO's customers in Sergipe to have access to the
same high-speed mobile data services that subscribers located in São
Paulo, Espírito Santo and Rio de Janeiro are enjoying,"
said Wagner Ferreira, president of Lucent Technologies Brazil.
