ASIA : Renesas Technology Corp. announced that it has cooperated with Mobile Communication Research in the next-generation mobile phone technology development.

The mobile phone has spread in the Chinese market with significant growth. Moreover, the requirement for multimedia functions such as digital camera, streaming video, TV receiver, MP3, high-resolution color displays are getting higher. Due to such market trend, Renesas Technology and MCR agreed upon the joint development of next-generation (3G/4G) mobile phones using SH-Mobile.

This will aim an optimum of baseband free mobile phone application and solution in Chinese market.

Overview of Cooperation
<Developments>
1. Standard specification proposal of 3G/4G application for Chinese mobile phones.
2. Scaleable hardware and software platform, and reference design for 3G/4G Smartphone based on SH-Mobile.
3. Demonstration tool and software development tool for Smartphone.

<Renesas Technology Responsibilities>
1. Distribution such as SH-Mobile, evaluation kit and software driver.
2. Technical support for next-generation mobile phone development by Renesas Technology's engineers.

<MCR Responsibilities>
1. Hardware design and software design of SH-Mobile based Smartphone platforms.
2. Porting application such as voice-recognition and fingerprint-recognition into SH-Mobile.

Future Deployment
The first step will be on 3G/4G Smartphone joint development, which aim at completion during year 2004. For the second step cooperation, development of standard software development kit and establishment of SH-Mobile training center will be discussed.
