Fujitsu Mobile Phone Design Award Winners

Japan : The 2009 Fujitsu Mobile Phone Design Awards have concluded in Tokyo with some very interesting mobile phone designs. The awards will now be run annually by Fujitsu Mobile Phones with the intent of finding innovative mobile phone designs and thereby enhancing Fujitsu’s product portfolio.
There were around 2000 entries from the public resulting in a main prize winner, and 23 other prizes in various categories. The awards were presented at Fujitsu's booth at CEATEC JAPAN this week.
Above shows the grand prize winning entry ( by Jin-gwon GO ) which was awarded 22,500 US dollars. With advances in graphic user interfaces, functions become icons for easy use. The design features an interface that can be operated according to the user's hand gestures when operating the mobile.
One of the runner ups which caught 3G’s attention was the chamelephone by Hiroyuki Tabuchi. Photo below. The mobile phone's body can mimic and take on the texture of the surface that it is placed on.

Winners were selected through a rigorous judging process by a panel of judges that included product designer Mr. Toshiyuki Kita, art director Mr. Manabu Mizuno, Nikkei Design Magazine's chief editor Mr. Kazuya Shimokawa, and the Japan Design Association's chairman, art director Mr. Katsumi Asaba.
