Europe : Sony Ericsson has confirmed that its camera phones will come with a mobile barcode scanner. The Scanlife application uses the mobile phone’s camera to read one dimensional and two dimensional barcodes. Sony Ericsson camera phones will come pre loaded with the scanner – ready to go.
Sony Ericsson camera phones pre loaded with the barcode scanner will read EAN, UPC, QR, EZcode and Datamatrix barcode formats ( see above). In use, the barcode scanner will scan a barcode and then automatically dial a phone number, load a video or website.
There is no need to type in website urls or keywords etc any longer just let the barcode scanner do it automatically. Check out the video to see how it works.
"This partnership is already generating tangible results as people are using new Sony Ericsson phones today with our application." Said Jonathan Bulkeley, Chief Executive Officer of Scanbuy. Phones are already being sold with the embedded technology in Spain, Italy, and Mexico with more countries to follow in the coming months.
Telcel, the leading wireless provider in Mexico, is already pre-loading a number of phones with ScanLife. Coca-Cola, Nike, and Frito-Lay have used EZcodes on their marketing material including print advertisements and packaging.
The ScanLife solution is geographically interoperable using ScanLife's Code Management Platform which generates codes and collects analytic data. The mobile application is supported by millions of mobile phones around the world and it is compatible with all major operating systems, including Android, BlackBerry, BREW, iPhone OS, Java, Symbian and Windows. It can be downloaded for free from the phone's browser at www.getscanlife.com
