Europe : According to a leading telecom source, Nokia is to go full steam ahead and develop a new Maemo smartphone to go head-to-head with Apple’s iPhone 3Gs. Fierce Wireless say that the smartphone would be Linux based and be ready to go on sale around mid 2010.
Recently Nokia has been pushing the N900 ( above ) and the fact that they recently launched Qt port for Maemo 5. However, despite all the N900 flag waving, video hype, and anticiapated launch date, this has been delayed.

Going back to Nokia’s Apple iPhone 3Gs challenger, Fierce Wireless reports that Nokia will continue to expand its range of Maemo featured handsets but this is likely to be at the expense the Symbian platform which Nokia fans have loved for so long.
As reported by 3G.co.uk this week, the Nokia 900 was delayed ( link above for full details ) because Nokia wanted to get further feedback from Maemo open source developers in before the N900 officially goes on sale.
