Tesco Mobile Aims High
15th October , 2009
UK : Tesco Mobile currently has over 50 mobile phone stores but aims to have over 100 open by the end of first quarter 2010. It was in June, 2003 that O2 and Tesco Mobile announced their joint venture to sell prepay mobile phones via Tesco stores. Until August, 2009 Tesco sold only budget or main stream mobile phones but that all changed when Smartphones appeared on Tesco shelves.
How are Tesco Mobile faring ? Well in June 2009 they once again won the prestigious mobile satisfaction survey from Which? And as a result of their progress they are now doubling the number of outlets.
Recently, Tesco did something similar to PC World with “Tech Guys” and trialed in London how shoppers would respond to “experts” within Tesco Mobile Outlets to help and advise them.
As a result of a succesful trial they will allocating “Phone Guys” in each Tesco Mobile Outlet.
The first Smartphones to be stocked were the Alcatel Tribe OT-800 (pictured above) and the LG GW-300. Both of these are budget Smartphones but we won’t be surprised to see Tesco Mobile offering high spec Smartphones sooner rather than later. This particulary applies as the “Phone Guys” will be there to help and demo the high spec handsets. They already offer 3G mobile broadband and laptop free offers.
Tesco Mobile have very ambitious plans and forecast to have over Tesco Mobile shop by 2012.
