3G Showcase In China

UTStarcom announced that it will showcase its comprehensive IP-based solutions, including its complete end-to-end 3G solution, PAS/iPAS, mSwitch and broadband systems at the PT EXPO COMM CHINA 2002 Trade Show in Beijing, China.

Beijing PT/Expo Comm China 2002 is one of the largest telecom industry trade shows, held once every two years and sponsored by the Ministry of Information Industry ("MII"). This year, there are in excess of 500 vendors from over 24 countries participating in the event bringing the latest developments in telecommunications to thousands of visitors.

"As a leading provider of wireless, IP and broadband access solutions, UTStarcom is increasingly focused on the development of advanced telecommunications technologies and products that will greatly benefit our customer's service offerings," said Ying Wu, CEO of UTStarcom China. "Through our IP-based solutions, we can effectively help our customers maximize their investment cost while at the same time providing more diversified services and functionalities; thereby increasing their revenues."

During the show, UTStarcom's W-CDMA equipment will be highlighted and will provide coverage for UTStarcom's booth as well as Panasonic's and DoCoMo's booths. UTStarcom will demonstrate such applications as video phones, 384k high speed mobile data, WAP/imode browsing and VoIP using various vendors' 3G commercial handsets. UTStarcom will also demonstrate 3GPP R5 IMS domain capability with VoIP SIP phone using UTStarcom softswitch mSwitch products. It is also the first time in the world that we demonstrate the phone calls between 3G and PAS. This signifies the interoperability of these two systems.

The Company's initial 3G Wireless Solution and succesful trials are based upon the WCDMA standard. UTStarcom believes there is a very large market for and plans to deliver CDMA2000 and TDSCDMA solutions as well.

Also during the show, UTStarcom will demo its industry leading and widely deployed mSwitch IP-based softswitch system. Based on an open architecture, mSwitch can provide a comprehensive system platform which can support various access technologies ranging from narrowband to broadband, from PSTN circuit to IP packet systems.

In the broadband product area, UTStarcom will demonstrate its IP-based ADSL/VDSL DSLAM solutions which feature such attractive applications as running on ADSL/VDSL systems like the VOD, high speed internet access and various value added data services.

Finally, there will also be a live demo of UTStarcom's tremendously successful PAS systems including, value added services, and C-Mode functionalities in which users can send and receive short messages and email, and browse the vast content on the web, download pictures and ring tones via a 64K wireless data connection.
