| 3G Network Cost Down |
|
18th September 2003 |
|
Tellabs and Nokia Networks have integrated the Tellabs® 8100 network manager into Nokia's NetAct radio access network management system to add Asynchronous Transfer Mode-layer (ATM) management to the existing Plesiosynchronous and Synchronous Digital Hierarchy (PDH and SDH) functions. The unified network manager will enable faster 3G service provisioning over the ATM transport layer and lower operating costs through advanced ATM circuit configuration. "While many of our customers are still relying on traditional Time Division Multiplexing for voice traffic, their migration routes through 3G require ATM support," said Mika Heikkinen, vice president and general manager of Tellabs Oy. "With this cooperation, we are simplifying such migration and making it easier and cheaper for our customers to deploy, configure and provision 3G services." The pre-integrated management solution enables fast system deployment and rapid upgrades, and the centralized storage of network parameters enables easier maintenance and pre-planning of the network with no manual bookkeeping. Nokia Networks and Tellabs will also cooperate to ensure seamless customer care, with Tellabs contributing its expertise in ATM management to support Nokia's 3G customers. Nokia
Networks and Tellabs will be jointly marketing the solution to current
and potential 3G customers and to mobile operators moving from 2G and
2.5G to 3G. The first network management solution based on this cooperation
will be available during second half 2003. |
