Above shows the Ace-3100 gateway used in the eMobile deployment. Europe : RAD Data Communications, a leading provider of broadband technologies for fixed and mobile operators, is supplying its ACE-3000 cell-site gateways to eMobile Japan for deployment in its HSDPA “EM Mobile Broadband” service, which was launched on March 31, 2007. This new 3.5G service provides eMobile subscribers with wireless Internet access from PCs and laptop computers at a maximum downlink speed of 3.6 Mbps and a maximum uplink speed of 384 kbps. The EM Mobile Broadband service area covers the most densely populated areas of Japan, including Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka. With the ACE-3000 cell-site gateways, eMobile is able to achieve network coverage in areas where only Ethernet based transport is available. "Cellular operators will struggle to generate a profit from mobile broadband services unless they address the cost of transporting the new data traffic volumes through the network,” said Patrick Donegan, Senior Analyst at Heavy Reading. “As one of the world's leading mobile markets, it's not surprising to find that operators in Japan are among the first to commit to solutions that enable them to leverage lower cost Ethernet backhaul networks." The ACE-3100 cell-site gateways and ACE-3402 RNC-site gateways are used to connect eMobile’s Ericsson HSDPA-enabled radio network equipment over an Ethernet transport network using ATM pseudowire tunnels and advanced synchronization over packet technology. RAD’s ACE-3000 cell-site and BSC/RNC-site gateways are compact access devices that are designed to allow mobile operators more cost-efficient transport for both 2G and 3G cellular traffic, and greater scalability for new broadband services such as 3.5G HSDPA. The ACE-3000’s advanced ATM, TDM and pseudowire switching and QoS capabilities enable 2G/3G consolidation, HSDPA separation/offload and full migration to packet-based wireless backhaul.
