US : Agilent Technologies announced a series of new features in a firmware update for its Mobile WiMAX Test Set. This update provides faster data throughput, idle mode support, downlink (DL) MAP logging and MIMO fast feedback -- the latest set of enhancements in the E6651A's portfolio of solutions for mobile device design and integration test covering the entire R&D lifecycle.

Agilent will showcase the E6651A - including these latest features - at the WiMAX World 2008 Conference and Expo, Booth 1030, in Chicago, Ill., Sept. 30 - Oct. 2. Agilent will also display a full complement of WiMAX(tm) and Mobile WiMAX(tm) test solutions for R&D, design verification, manufacturing, protocol conformance, and interoperability test, as well as network deployment and maintenance.

Details of the E6651A firmware update include:

Faster data throughput. Increased end-to-end IP data throughput (greater than 10 Mbps) and new flexible modulation settings in the E6655A WiMAX Lab Application enable stress testing a device using more modulation coding scheme choices and real applications (for example, video streaming or file transfer). Increased downlink data throughput of up to 13 Mbps using E6651A test modes supports a broader scope of test for mobile station receiver test. Idle mode support. This capability allows users to test the functionality of a DUT's idle mode and supports battery-life testing. DL MAP logging. Using Agilent's N6421A Protocol Logging and Analysis software, the E6651A users can debug physical layer issues. MIMO fast feedback. This capability helps users diagnose DUTs exhibiting poor noise performance or reporting channel conditions incorrectly.

Agilent's E6651A can be used for RF, functional and protocol test and is at the heart of protocol conformance test (PCT) solutions. PCT is a vital part of the WiMAX Forum(r) certification process, ensuring that the latest WiMAX technologies are delivered with a high degree of device interoperability. Today, more and more 3.5 GHz Mobile WiMAX designs are being developed, prompting the WiMAX Forum to begin accepting products for 3.5 GHz validation and certification testing program. To maintain its central role in PCT, Agilent -- with its E6651A and N6430A PCT solutions -- has started 3.5 GHz test case validation and expects to have validated test cases available soon. This will ensure that Agilent's customers can test their devices against the latest WiMAX Forum certification requirements.

"Faster data throughput test and ongoing 3.5 GHz PCT validation demonstrate our commitment to leading-edge WiMAX test solutions across the entire R&D lifecycle," said Niels Faché, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Mobile Broadband Division. "Providing a broad set of high-performance test solutions designed around a common platform improves test efficiencies for our customers and speeds their WiMAX deployment."
