One of the biggest differentiators between the various mobile networks is the extra perks they offer and arguably one of the biggest perks of becoming a Three customer is its Feel at Home service. Read on for all the details.
Feel at Home allows Three customers to use their devices abroad at no extra cost. You can text, call and even browse the net on 3G without paying any extra money, it all just comes out of your standard data allowance.
That’s a big deal as most networks charge a premium to use your device abroad, particularly when using data, which can quickly rack up wallet-busting charges.
Feel at Home works automatically and is available to Pay Monthly, SIM Only and Pay As You Go customers, for both phones and mobile broadband, though if you’re on Pay As You Go you will need to convert your credit into an add-on, which you can do from your My3 account.
Once you reach a destination covered by Feel at Home simply ensure data roaming is on and you’re good to go.
When you arrive you’ll first get a text confirming the standard international roaming charges for the country you’re in and then another confirming that calls and texts back to the UK and the use of data will not cost any extra, so it’s when you’ve received this text that you’ll know for sure that you’re not going to be stung with any big bills.
Feel at Home is currently available in 19 destinations, including Australia, Austria, Denmark, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Israel, Italy, Lanzarote, Macau, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Spain, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
That’s just the beginning though, as Three promises that many more destinations are on their way.
A lot! Three has revealed that in the first two years after launch Feel at Home saved customers a whopping £1.3 billion and five months later that went up to £2.6 billion. Even on an individual level customers are estimated to have saved an average of £202 each year in roaming costs.
It’s a hugely popular service too, as over 2 million customers have now used it, gobbling up an average of 500MB of data on each overseas trip.
If you go over your allowance in a Feel at Home EU destination then you’ll be charged up to 3.9p per minute to call UK numbers, 1.6p per text to a UK number and 3.9p per megabyte of data. Receiving texts and calls is always free in Feel at Home destinations.
4G isn’t currently available abroad on Three. Tethering isn’t supported in Feel at Home destinations and if you have unlimited data you’ll be capped at 12GB. Allowances with unlimited texts are capped at 5000 and if you have unlimited minutes they’re capped at 3000.
Numbers that start 070, 09, 084, 087 or 118 are not included.
