Overview

The iPhone XS is Apple’s latest and greatest handset (other than arguably the iPhone XS Max), as it has everything great about the iPhone X along with a whole lot of upgrades.

The design is more or less the same, which is no bad thing, as it means you get a metal frame, a glass back and a stunning look, complete with almost no bezel on the front, other than a notch, and it optionally comes in an eye-catching new gold finish.

But under the surface things have improved – the glass on the back is more durable and the phone is even more water-resistant, as it can be submerged up to 2 meters deep.

The iPhone XS is also supremely powerful, with a new hexa-core A12 Bionic chipset offering more power than the A11 Bionic from the iPhone X (a chipset which still outshines most rival ones), as well as being more power efficient.

The iPhone XS also has a big 5.8-inch 1125 x 2436 screen coming in at a crisp 458 pixels per inch, and it’s an OLED one, so you get great contrast and vivid colours. And of course, like any good flagship it supports HDR.

There’s a dual-lens 12MP camera on the back, powering high-end features like Portrait Mode (which now lets you adjust the depth of field even after taking a shot), optical zoom and a new Smart HDR mode, which can combine multiple shots to ensure your snaps look the best they possibly can. The camera is also smarter than ever, as it’s powered in part by an advanced neural engine.

There’s also a 7MP front-facing camera. But this is the TrueDepth camera system Apple debuted last year, so it can sense depth for striking portrait shots, as well as sporting the most advanced and secure facial recognition technology you’ll find on a phone.

The iPhone XS also comes with a massive 512GB of storage at the top end, runs the brand-new iOS 12 operating system and has improved battery life, as the phone can apparently last 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X between charges. So it’s an improvement
