Overview

The iPhone XS Max is the phone to get if you want the biggest and best iPhone possible. With its 6.5-inch screen it’s got the biggest display Apple has ever put on a phone, yet remarkably the overall handset size is slightly smaller than the iPhone 8 Plus.

That’s because the iPhone XS Max is modelled after the iPhone X, meaning there’s almost no wasted space, with virtually zero bezel around the screen, other than a notch at the top.

It’s a premium, modern look and it’s even better here than before as the glass back is stronger than ever and the iPhone XS Max is IP68 certified, meaning it can be submerged up to 2 metres deep in water for up to 30 minutes.

Going back to that display though – it’s more than just big, it’s also sharp at 1242 x 2688 giving it 458 pixels per inch. And it’s OLED, which is generally considered better than LCD thanks to its better contrast ratio. Plus, it’s an HDR display, so HDR content can be shown in all its glory. All in all this should be one of the best smartphone screens around.

But the iPhone XS Max is about more than just its screen. It also has a massive amount of power, thanks to the A12 Bionic chipset powering it. This is the industry’s first 7 nanometre chip and its CPU is even faster than the chip in the iPhone X.

Coupled with a GPU that’s up to 50% faster and a much faster new neural engine we wouldn’t expect anything will slow this phone down.

Other highlights of the iPhone XS Max include its 12MP dual-lens rear camera, which has both a telephoto and a wide-angle lens, allowing it to zoom in without loss of quality and blur the background of shots. You can even adjust the depth of field after you’ve taken a photo, to make shots perfect as possible.

Of course, the phone also has a TrueDepth camera on the front, with similar depth of field skills and the ability to unlock the phone with your face.

There’s also a massive 512GB of storage in the top model, and a long-lasting battery, which Apple claims can last up to 90 minutes longer than the one in the iPhone X. This then is Apple’s true flagship.
