Overview

Doro 6520

The Doro 6520 lovingly restores the classic flip phone form factor that used to rule the mobile world, all while adding a bunch of useful accessibility functions.

It’s a clamshell feature phone with a 2.8-inch 240 x 320 screen for the top section and a physical T9 keypad on the bottom section. At 103.9 x 55.1 x 19.2mm when closed, this is a fairly compact device, and it’s also light at 103g.

In keeping with its retro looks, the Doro 6520 provides the essential functions of a phone at a rock bottom price. It’s ideal for simple messaging and call-placing, though you also have access to a web browser, an email app, a calendar and games.

All of which is more than adequately handled by a 520MHz ARM11 processor and 75MB of built in memory. You can expand the latter by up to 32GB via a built-in microSD slot.

You also get a a 2MP camera, complete with a physical shortcut key on the keyboard, so you won’t miss that fleeting moment. On the connectivity side, Bluetooth and 3G are both supported.

Doro is renowned for its accessibility support, and the 6520 doesn’t buck that trend. For the hard of hearing there’s enhanced sound and hearing aid support, while those with poor eyesight can count on a talking keys function.

There’s also an assistance button on the back of the phone, which will send a text message to three pre-set phone numbers when pressed.

If you’re after a classic flip phone that covers all the mobile essentials but with enhanced accessibility options, the Doro 6520 is an ideal pick. What’s more, it will cost you significantly less than any smartphone.
