The Honor 8X is an affordable almost-flagship from a brand that excels in delivering great phones for reasonable prices.
At first glance, you really would almost think this was a flagship, thanks to the all-screen front with just a notch at the top and a tiny bottom bezel, the metal frame, and the shiny glass back with a slight two-tone finish, giving it a distinctive look.
But the Honor 8X has more than just a high-end look, it also has a big, high-quality screen. Specifically a 6.5-inch 1080 x 2340 one with a pixel density of 396 pixels per inch. And of course, it’s got a trendy extra-long 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Yet, while the screen is massive the lack of bezels means it’s still a manageable size in the hand.
The Honor 8X also has a dual-lens rear camera, with both a 20MP f/1.8 lens and a 2MP depth sensor. While not quite a match for flagships, its AI-powered scene recognition, portrait mode and surprisingly effective night mode ensure this is still a very versatile and capable camera.
On the front of the Honor 8X there’s a 16MP camera which also leverages AI, ensuring the phone is good for selfies too. Plus, that front lens enables a facial recognition feature, so you can unlock the Honor 8X just by looking at it. Though there’s also a fingerprint scanner if you’d prefer.
You also get a big 3,750mAh battery, which is a well above average size for a smartphone and helps this handset easily last a day despite its huge screen.
And the Honor 8X is powerful too, thanks to an octa-core Kirin 710 chipset and 4GB of RAM. That’s not quite a match for the flagship chipset used in the Honor 10, but it’s close.
You also get a healthy 64GB of storage, plus a microSD card slot, all for a lower mid-range price.
