The Huawei Mate Xs is a truly brilliant foldable phone that fills the role of both handset and tablet admirably.
The Huawei Mate Xs is one of the most exciting phones you’re likely to encounter, as it does the best job yet of fulfilling the promise of foldable handsets.
With an 8-inch screen when unfolded and two displays of over 6 inches when folded down, it’s got all the size you need whether in smartphone or tablet form, and those screens are sharp too.
Unlike some foldables the Huawei Mate Xs doesn’t have massive bezels either. Whichever form you choose to use it in you’ll get an all-screen design, which also ensures it’s surprisingly compact when folded down to phone form.
The Huawei Mate Xs has all the power you need too, with a high-end, octa-core Kirin 990 chipset, support for 5G, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage (plus an expansion slot).
The camera excels as well, as there’s a quad-lens one, consisting of main, telephoto, ultra-wide and depth sensors, so you’ve got all the versatility you’d expect from a flagship. And thanks to the foldable design you can also use these lenses for selfies. Plus, if you’re taking snaps of someone else, they can see themselves in one of the screens while you do so, helping them pose.
The Huawei Mate Xs also has a fast-charging 4,500mAh battery, and an interface built around multi-tasking – just be aware that while it runs Android it doesn’t have access to Google apps and services, but Huawei is doing a good job of plugging the gap with its own AppGallery store.
