Overview

The Huawei P30 – along with the Huawei P30 Pro – is the main 2019 flagship from the company and it has a lot going for it, starting with its brilliant camera.

You get three lenses on the back – a 40MP f/1.8 main lens, a 16MP f/2.2 ultra-wide one and an 8MP f/2.4 telephoto one. And the main sensor doesn’t just have a high megapixel count, it also uses RYYB rather than RGGB, which allows it to take in more light and colour information than most comparable lenses. So it’s super versatile and also great for night shots – an area which many phones struggle with.

The Huawei P30 also has a 32MP camera on the front, which makes it one of the best phones around for selfies.

Your window on to all this is a 6.1-inch 1080 x 2340 OLED screen, capable of delivering crisp, vibrant visuals with hardly any distractions, as there’s just a tiny notch at the top and a slim bezel at the bottom.

In fact, the whole design is top-class, as the Huawei P30 also has a metal frame and a glass back, the latter of which can be bought in a gradient colour scheme that changes depending on the direction of the light hitting it.

The phone also has an in-screen fingerprint scanner and there’s plenty of power thanks to 6GB of RAM and an octa-core Kirin 980 chipset. That’s Huawei’s most powerful chipset at the time of writing, it’s backed up by AI, and its cores are clocked at up to 2.6GHz.

Rounding out the specs there’s a healthy 3,650mAh battery with fast charging, 128GB of expandable storage, and Android 9 Pie, making this a phone that should easily be able to compete with the rest of 2019’s flagships.
