Overview

The OnePlus 8 Pro is not just the best OnePlus phone yet but also one of the very best smartphones you can buy, rivalling the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra and iPhone 11 Pro Max, yet coming in at a lower price than either of them.

The best feature of the phone is definitely its screen, which is 6.78 inches, 1440 x 3168, has 513 pixels per inch, a 120Hz refresh rate, and support for HDR10+.

Breaking that down, this Fluid AMOLED display is very big, very sharp, very high quality, and packs a refresh rate that matches or beats every key rival.

The OnePlus 8 Pro also has a Snapdragon 865 chipset, which is the best Android chipset around, even edging out the Exynos 990 found in the Samsung Galaxy S20 range. And it’s paired here with a choice of 8GB or 12GB of RAM, making this one of the very most powerful phones you can get at the time of writing.

There’s also a quad-lens camera here, with two 48MP sensors – one for the main snapper and one for ultra-wide shots. Then there’s an 8MP telephoto lens offering 3x optical zoom, and a 5MP colour filter lens, which isn’t something you’ll find elsewhere – essentially this bakes camera filters into the hardware, rather than relying purely on software.

Other highlights of the OnePlus 8 Pro include wireless charging, and an IP68 rating for water resistance – two things that weren’t found on previous OnePlus handsets.

There’s also 5G support, a big 4510mAh battery, loads of storage, an in-screen fingerprint scanner, and an utterly premium build.
