Overview

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G is very close to being a perfect foldable phone, as it includes some big improvements on the already-impressive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2.

Perhaps the biggest of these is support for Samsung’s S Pen stylus, meaning you can draw, edit photos with precision, take handwritten notes and more, which are all things you might want to do on its big screen.

Speaking of the screen, that’s a 7.6-inch 1768 x 2208 AMOLED one with a 120Hz refresh rate, support for HDR10+, and a very high peak brightness of 1200 nits. So it’s not just big, it’s also smooth, bright, sharp and delivers content in the best possible quality.

And when you don’t need a big screen, you can fold it shut and make use of the 6.2-inch 832 x 2268 cover display. This is also an AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, so while the big screen is almost like using a tablet, the little one feels more like using a high-end smartphone.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 is also IPX8 certified, meaning it can be submerged up to 1.5 metres deep in water for up to 30 minutes. This is the first Samsung foldable to have that rating, and it’s a really reassuring thing to have.

Other highlights include Samsung’s first under-display camera, so it’s almost invisible when you’re not using it. That’s just one of five cameras on this phone though, with the main trio including a 12MP wide, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP telephoto (with 2x optical zoom). So whatever types of photos you want to take, it’s likely you’ll find an appropriate lens here.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G also has top-end power thanks to a Snapdragon 888 chipset and 12GB of RAM, plus plenty of storage with up to 512GB built in. And of course, as the name suggests it also supports 5G.
