Overview

The Sony Xperia M2 is a midrange handset aiming for the same section of the market as the Motorola Moto G. It’s the successor to the Sony Xperia M and it’s a marked improvement in a number of ways.

Its 4.8 inch screen might not be HD but it’s impressively large, while its 1.2GHz quad-core processor ensures that it’s a nippy performer, even if it does only have 1GB of RAM.

It lacks the premium finish of the Sony Xperia Z2, opting for a plastic build in place of metal and glass, but it has the same look about it and comes across as moderately stylish.

The Sony Xperia M2’s 8 megapixel camera is a decent offering and it has an Exmor RS light sensor to improve low light shots as well as a dedicated camera button, so you won’t have to tap the screen to take photos. Plus there are a variety of shooting modes on offer, such as HDR and TimeShift Burst.

The presence of 4G and NFC are nice additions too given that this is a midrange phone. Really it’s exactly what you’d expect from a handset that’s a step down from the Xperia Z range. The look is similar and everything about it is solid if not exactly top end.
