4G coverage is rapidly being expanded by EE, since the company were first to launch its 4G network in the UK, to another 27 towns by June this year. This will bring the total number of cities and towns which have access to 4G by June, to a total of 65.
At this moment in time, 4G has launched in 28 cities to-date, with Newbury becoming the 28th. However, it needs to be pointed out that there are over 66 cities and 1067 Towns in the UK, so there is still a long way to go.
EE’s 4G service is up to five times faster than a standard 3G network offers and so we here at 3G want it in our area too, but we have to wait longer it seems. However, those living in Aldershot, Ashford, Basildon, Basingstoke, Blackpool, Bracknell, Camberley, Colchester, Crawley, Farnborough, Guildford, Horsham, Huddersfield, Leatherhead, Maidstone, Milton Keynes, Oldham, Oxford, Redhill, Reigate, Sevenoaks, Stevenage, Tonbridge, Royal Tunbridge Wells, Warrington, Wigan and Woking will be pleased to hear that 4G will be launched for them sometime between April and June.
One of the key measures for a new 4G network, other than area coverage, is population coverage. EE’s 4GEE network is currently available to over 45% of the population and by the time the last of the cities above receives 4G, this will rise to over 55% population coverage.
Olaf Swantee, Chief Executive Officer, EE, said:“Our business customers want a 4G network that covers the markets in which they operate, and that is exactly what we are building for them – and at a phenomenal rate. We’re set to cover more than half of the UK population by Summer, staying ahead of the schedule that we set for ourselves at launch, and continuing to demonstrate the amazing value of 4G mobile to many organisations with different challenges and different needs.”
EE are also creating in a bit of a stronghold within the business sector, with an incresing number of businesses implementing 4G within its IT and Mobile strategies. This includes leading businesses such as Gatwick Airport, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Kier, Microsoft, Morrisons, Sony Music and TNT Post.
