In the year ending March 2015 Three carried a remarkable 42% of UK mobile data traffic, despite being the smallest major network.
Average user data per month reached a massive 4.65GB in June 2015 and 215 million WhatsApp messages are sent by Three customers every day. So it’s clear that the network needs fast and reliable 4G.
Good news then, because Three has announced that it’s rolling out additional spectrum to achieve just that. It’s going to be adding 5MHz of 1800MHz spectrum (which is what it uses for 4G) to its network, which will increase 4G speeds by up to 50% nationwide.
The extra spectrum will also help improve the performance and capacity of Three’s 4G network, which should prove especially useful in congested areas.
The extra spectrum is already live across Northern England, the West Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland, so if you live in those places you could already have access to higher speeds.
The rest of the UK, including London, will get access to this additional spectrum when the roll out is complete. Three hasn’t confirmed exactly when this will be but hopefully the wait won’t be too long.
Three’s 4G coverage might be behind the competition, but with improvements like this its service where it is available is sure to be among the best, especially in conjunction with the recently rolled out 4G Super-Voice VoLTE service and the ability to use your phone abroad at no extra cost with Feel At Home.
In short there are a lot of reasons to choose Three and with faster 4G the network should become even more tempting.
