Nokia Ovi Maps has now reached over a million downloads in just over a week.
The software was made available free on January 21st and within a week it had hit a million downloads, with the figure now standing at 1.4 million downloads. Amazingly, this means Ovi Maps is effectively being downloaded once every second 24 hours a day.
In the future all Nokia mobiles will come pre-loaded with Ovi Maps which will give them an even larger installed user-base.
Nokia Ovi Maps covers a massive 180 countries with both car and pedestrian maps for 74 countries, traffic information in over 10 countries and is available in 46 languages.
There’s no doubt that Ovi Maps will continue to achieve more and more success as it’s an incredible application to get for free.
Additionally this week Skyworks have released Maps booster, which enables Ovi Maps to your position faster and in places you previously couldn’t.
Instead of using GPS, which Ovi Maps normally uses, Maps Booster uses Wi-Fi which when combined with the Wi-Fi database provided enables you to get your position in seconds and in places that may have been troublesome without Maps Booster.
The Maps Booster software costs around £2, but considering it can mean your location is found in seconds rather than around a minute it might be worth it. You can buy Maps Booster from the Ovi Store right now.
