Owners of Sony’s Xperia Z have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Android KitKat since the new OS update was announced by Google back in October.
News has broken from Poland via mobile operator PLAY that the wait may soon be over. PLAY has posted a list of devices and when they can be updated to Android KitKat (4.4.2). The Xperia Z is listed for the end of February to early March.
The Xperia Z has since been overshadowed by Sony’s new flagship smartphone, the Xperia Z1 - but it's still a superb smartphone. Sony's Xperia Z shipped with Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) in February last year and was updated to Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) in December.
It should be noted that even though PLAY’s Polish customers will be getting KitKat it could be a little longer before it hits the UK because Sony always roll out their updates on a region by region basis.
Updates such as these are always released to SIM free handsets first and then followed up with a later release to contract handsets, so this needs to taken into account.
The only sure-fire way to absolutely be certain when KitKat will be available in the UK is to wait for official confirmation from Sony.
