LG has had quite a bit of success with the G3 and G2, but those are flagship phones with flagship price tags, so they’re not for everyone.
With that in mind LG has crafted two new handsets, merging high end features, quad-core power and affordable prices. There’s the LG L Fino (above), a phone with a 4.5 inch 800 x 480 display for a pixel density of 207 pixels per inch. It has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of built in storage, an 8 megapixel main camera, a VGA front facing one, a 1,900mAh battery and comes in at 127.5 x 67.9 x 11.9mm.
Then there’s the LG L Bello (below), which has a larger 5.0 inch 854 x 480 display, giving it a pixel density of 196 pixels per inch. This phone has a 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 8GB of built in storage, an 8 megapixel main camera, a 1 megapixel front facing one, a 2,540 mAh battery and comes in at 138.2 x 70.6 x 10.7mm. So as well as being larger than the LG Fino it’s slightly higher spec.
Both handsets run Android 4.4.2 KitKat and both share a similar design to the LG G3, complete with buttons on the back. They also inherit some features of LG’s flagship, such as Knock Code, which allows users to unlock the phone by tapping a pattern on the screen and Touch & Shoot which simplifies the act of focusing and taking pictures into a single tap anywhere on the screen.
With no 4G on-board and fairly low resolution screens these phones aren’t going to threaten anything high end but if they’re priced right they could be a solid alternative to a Moto G or a Nokia Lumia 530 and according to LG they’re aimed primarily at teenagers and first-time smartphone buyers in emerging markets.
Despite a focus on emerging markets though they’re likely to arrive in the UK. Exact pricing and availability hasn’t been announced, but they’re listed on LG’s UK site and it claims that they’ll begin rolling out this month in Latin America, with markets in Europe, Asia and CIS to follow.
In the meantime they’re going to be shown off at IFA 2014 early next month, so you’ll be able to get a better look at them then.
