Virgin Media began rolling out WiFi networks in the London Underground before the Olympics last year. They’ve continued to add more stations ever since and another 11 stations have now been added.
The 11 new stations to benefit from Virgin Media’s WiFi network are : Gloucester Road, Tooting Bec, Highbury & Islington, Tooting Broadway, Kentish Town, Hampstead, Great Portland Street, Redbridge, Hammersmith , Blackhorse Road and South Wimbledon.
Access to the WiFi network is free for Virgin Media, EE, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone customers. However, everyone else will have to pay for access which costs £2 day, £5 a month or £15 a month.
Virgin Media’s WiFi network does include a free to access information service which provides travel information and local news. This is pretty useful, but the real value comes from the full service which enables commuters and tourists to browse the web while on the tube.
Virgin Media are continuing to roll-out the WiFi network to more London Underground stations and are aiming to have 120 stations connected before the end of the 2013.
