The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are strong phones, we already know this thanks to the drop test videos which are emerging, but now people are putting them through even more brutal treatments.
First up we have a nut cracker video created by S6 Tester and it’s one of the more creative video tests we’ve seen, as it involves nuts being placed on the Galaxy S6’s screen and smashed open by whacking the S6 Edge’s screen against them.
Nine nuts are cracked in rapid and brutal succession and at the end of it both phones still work and the screens appear undamaged.
But for the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge that’s just the beginning, as in a separate video by TechSmartt it gets a key, a knife and even a hammer used on it.
First the key is scraped and whacked against the screen, the glass back and the metal sides. This results in some small scratches on the edge of the metal frame and also on the metal surround of the camera lens, but nothing major and no visible marks on the screen or back of the phone.
Next they take a kitchen knife to it giving it a similar treatment and once again the front and back glass both survive unscathed. However there’s a small amount of damage to the speaker grill, while the metal frame has visible ridges created by the knife and the rim around the camera also comes away more damaged, but so far the damage is all superficial.
Finally we come to the hammer and this is where the S6 Edge meets its match. The actual head of the hammer doesn’t do a lot to it when hitting it with the correct side, but the sharp prongs prove too much for the Galaxy S6 Edge, completely decimating the front, back and camera lens of the phone.
So what have we learned? The Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are strong and their Gorilla Glass 4 screen and back can take a lot of punishment, but they can’t survive a hammer.
