The latest update to the HTC One M8 has arrived for European users and it’s a big one. Bringing the software up to version 4.4.3 of Android, the update comes in at a massive 613MB, so you’ll definitely want to be connected to Wi-Fi when you download it.
The update includes changes on both Google and HTC’s end, with various bug and security fixes as well as performance optimisations for Wi-Fi, mobile networks and Bluetooth.
But there’s more to it than that, including updates for the camera, gallery, settings and HTC Sync Manager and optimisations to BoomSound, Extreme Power Saving Mode, Motion Launch and Quick Settings.
Plus while this is technically Android 4.4.3, it includes security fixes from Android 4.4.4. What does all that mean for users? Well, not a lot on the surface. There isn’t much in the way of visual changes or new features but the phone should be faster than ever now as well as being a little less buggy and more secure, which are all good things.
The update has likely already hit your phone by now so you can grab it either from the notification you’ll probably get or by checking for updates from the settings screen. If it’s not available yet, don’t worry. It’s a gradual rollout and some countries and networks will get it later than others, so it should be with you soon.
Given that it includes the security fixes from Android 4.4.4 this is essentially the latest version of Android, so you’re unlikely to get another update before Android L rolls out and makes some big changes.
