4G To Launch In The UK This Year ?

In the UK we've got a major problem at the moment because other countries already have 4G wireless networks, or are in the process of installing them. However, in Britain we won't even auction the 4G spectrum's until the start of 2013.

That puts the UK as a huge disadvantage and we'll all suffer due to slower speeds , as well as missing out on the latest mobiles. A huge number of mobiles are now adding support for LTE/4G with the new iPhone also rumoured to support 4G.

Some good news could be on the horizon because Everything Everywhere , who own T-Mobile and Orange, are hoping to bring 4G to the UK by the end of the year.

Everything Everywhere have applied to OFCOM , the telecoms regulator, to upgrade some of its existing wireless spectrum to support 4G. They hope to have the proposition approved in the Spring and to have some of the network upgraded by the end of the year.

We should point out that it'll only be a small-scale 4G network with only a few transmitters, but getting any sort of head-start on installing the technology can only be a good thing. Further, if Everything Everywhere get their proposal approved the other operators might also jump on board and free up some wireless spectrum for 4G.

You might be wondering what all the fuss about 4G is about , but it improves speeds vastly which will take mobiles and mobile broadband to the next level. In theory 4G is up to 10 times faster, which will open up a whole new world of possibilities including HD video streaming and even streaming gaming !
