ZTE Open C and Open II showcased at MWC 2014
ZTE are a major force in the world of mobile with the 5th highest smartphone sales of any manufacturer last year.
The Chinese manufacturer unveiled the Android-powered ZTE Grand Memo II LTE phablet at MWC 2014 earlier today and they've now unveiled two new smartphones running on the Firefox OS platform.
The unveiling of the ZTE Open C (above) and ZTE Open II (below) follows on from a tradition started at last years event, when ZTE unveiled their first Firefox-powered smartphone, the ZTE Open.
Both the new smartphones come pre-loaded with Firefox OS, which is an open-source platform produced by Mozilla - who make the popular web-browser Firefox. The pair of new smartphones also sit firmly at the affordable end of the market.
The ZTE Open C is the better-specced of the two with a 4-inch display (800*480 pixels) and is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor with 512MB of RAM. The smartphone supports 3G and comes with 4GB of onboard memory and a 3 mega-pixel camera. It will be available in a choice of dark blue, light blue, turquoise, red, white and orange.
It'll initially be available in Venezuela and Uruguay in the second quarter of 2014 before rolling out to other markets. The price still remains unknown, but it should be around the £100 mark.
The ZTE Open II has a smaller 3.5-inch display (480*320 pixels) and is powered by the same dual-core 1.2GHz processor. However, the RAM has been cut to 256MB and the onboard memory to 2GB. While, you only get a 2 mega-pixel rear-facing camera - but thankfully it still supports 3G.
No details on the ZTE Open II will be available or how much it'll cost, but it should be priced under £100.
“Our first Firefox OS phone, the ZTE Open, proved hugely popular and we are excited to bring even more innovative Firefox OS products to market, starting with the ZTE Open C and Open II. We have huge confidence in the Firefox OS platform and expect to deliver more than one million Firefox OS phones this year alone,” said Mr.Kan Yulun, CEO of EMEA & LATAM, ZTE Mobile Devices, and Vice President of ZTE Corporation.
