3G CDMA 2000, 1xEV-DO Hardware Interoperability
19th March 2002

COM DEV International Ltd. today announced that its operating division, COM DEV Broadband, and AirPrime of Santa Clara, California, have joined efforts to demonstrate interoperability of commercial 1xEV-DO equipment at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Show, which opens this week in Orlando, Florida. Using their respective CDMA 2000, 1xEV-DO, IS-856 infrastructure and terminal equipment hardware, the Companies are setting the standard for commercial availability of high-speed wireless 3G systems. COM DEV Broadband is a leading designer and manufacturer of high-speed wireless data systems. AirPrime supplies high-speed, CDMA wireless access solutions to the OEM market.
The Companies will use AirPrime's EM5200 series of CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO single channel embedded modules and COM DEV's diversity USB-enabled NetLink Terminal (NLT) with COM DEV's 1xEV-DO M/ERGY(TM) infrastructure network system to demonstrate the ability of 1xEV-DO hardware from different manufacturers to successfully deliver high speed wireless data services. Users of these services will be able to experience applications such as streaming video, ftp file transfer and full desktop Internet experience at data rates up to 2.4 Mbps in fixed, stationary or mobile environments. Data optimized CDMA 2000, 1xEV-DO, IS-856 networks, like COM DEV's M/ERGY(TM), enable operators to offer wireless data rates to home and small business users at 15-20 times the data rate of new GPRS data services, at a fraction of the cost. COM DEV's M/ERGY(TM) network is now available at both the 800 MHz and the 1900 MHz PCS bands.

"The availability of data-optimized 3G products from COM DEV and AirPrime enable service providers to deliver broadband wireless data services and to generate new and immediate sources of revenue and growth," said John Keating, Chief Operating Officer at COM DEV. "The M/ERGY system offers operators a single, broadband wireless platform to provide both fixed and mobile data services, thereby eliminating the costs of managing multiple technologies. This will enable large economies of scale, reduce operating costs and drive a sustainable and profitable business model."

"AirPrime is committed to supporting leading-edge technology development and is pleased to support companies like COM DEV in their efforts to bring true CDMA 2000, 1xEV-DO networks to market," said Justin Schmid, AirPrime's Director of Product Management.
