The iPhone Air is an entirely new thing, as this is the slimmest, most stylish iPhone yet, and it puts its sleek, attractive design ahead of all else.
Coming in at just 5.6mm thick this is incredibly thin, and it’s appropriately light at just 165g. This is a phone designed to turn heads, and it’s sure to succeed at that, especially given the stylish selection of colours it’s available in.
But while the iPhone Air is a fashion icon, it’s not lacking for specs either, as it has a top-end A19 Pro chipset. That’s the same chipset as you’ll find in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, albeit with one less GPU core – which in practice means its power is somewhere between the base iPhone 17 and the Pro models.
The iPhone Air also includes a hefty 12GB of RAM, a combination which means this should be one of the most powerful phones on the market, despite its slim build.
It has a 6.5-inch 120Hz Super Retina XDR OLED screen with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, a resolution of 1260 x 2736, and a pixel density of around 460 pixels per inch – a combination that sees it match most high-end phones.
It also comes with upwards of 256GB of storage, so there’s plenty of space, and you get a highly capable 48MP camera, which can also take optical quality 2x zoom shots, while around the front there’s an 18MP selfie camera.
The iPhone Air also has an IP68 rating, leaving it water resistant to depths of six metres for up to 30 minutes, and its uses Ceramic Shield 2 on the screen for enhanced scratch resistance – ensuring this phone is a lot tougher than it looks.
Like other recent iPhones it also includes Face ID for security, a customisable Action button, and a Camera Control giving you a physical key to access and control the camera with.
Being so slim you might expect battery life to suffer, but somehow Apple has equipped it with a battery that can last for up to 27 hours of video playback, which is a very impressive stat for a phone of this stature. So there isn’t much in the way of compromise here – though note that the iPhone Air is eSIM-only.
