Coverage and speeds

Three’s 4G coverage reaches 99% of the UK population, so wherever you are and wherever you go, you’ll almost always have a signal.

Its 5G coverage is also growing at a rapid rate, and may soon be almost as widespread as 4G. At last count, Three offered 5G to over 62% of the UK population – but Three doesn’t regularly update the recorded figure, so it’s likely much higher now.

Three has been rated the UK’s fastest 5G network by Speedtest, in tests conducted in 2022, and echoed by data from 2023, 2024 amd 2025. Similar 2025 tests from RootMetrics also found that Three’s 5G sped ahead of most rivals, as did Opensignal tests in September 2024. 

To give you an idea of just how fast we’re talking, Speedtest found in the second half of 2025 that Three’s median 5G download speed was 214.02Mbps, which is higher than any rival, while Opensignal similarly found that Three’s average 5G download speed was better than rivals at 208.9Mbps. This has been made possible in part because Three has more 5G spectrum than any other UK network.

Three’s peak speeds also impress, with RootMetrics in the first half of 2025 recording a 95th percentile speed of 916.8Mbps for Three. That’s far higher than any other network in this test, with EE being a distant second at 730.1Mbps.   All that speed means you can download apps and files faster, stream video in higher quality, and game online more smoothly. Wi-Fi Calling and VOLTE
