Motorola
Inc. announced today that it has selected PacketVideo to provide multimedia
solutions for selected, 3G wireless communication devices.
As part of the agreement, the companies will work together to enable
mobile operators to differentiate their offerings by launching new enhanced
mobilemedia services for their subscribers.
"Motorola is forging unique relationships with companies like PacketVideo
to help ensure that it can support its customers' roll-out plans for
3G," said John Thode, vice president and general manager of 3G
handset development in Motorola's Personal Communications Sector. "Delivering
simple, intuitive and easy to use multimedia applications and experiences
is a critical element of Motorola's 3G handset strategy and we believe
our relationship with PacketVideo will help us provide exciting solutions
to our customers."
As part of this agreement, the 3G Motorola device(s) incorporating PacketVideo's
technology will include video playback capability via PacketVideo's
pvPlayer(TM) as well as video capture and encoding capability via PacketVideo's
pvAuthor(TM), which enables two-way video communication. The device(s)
will be fully interoperable with 3GPP, including PacketVideo's pvServer
products.
Today's announcement further strengthens Motorola's relationship with
PacketVideo. Motorola Ventures, the global, strategic venture capital
investment arm of Motorola Inc, announced last year that it had invested
in PacketVideo.
"This latest agreement with Motorola further establishes both companies'
commitment to delivering compelling mobilemedia solutions to the wireless
community," said Kathleen Peters, vice president of worldwide embedded
solutions for PacketVideo. "Combining Motorola's expertise in the
handset market with PacketVideo's enhanced multimedia system provides
mobile operators with a solution that will enable them to deliver rich
mobilemedia services to their customers."
