Comsys Communications & Signal Processing Ltd., a leader in cellular physical layer solutions for emerging cellular standards, and Sasken Communication Technologies Ltd., experts in wireless protocol stack software development, announced today they have entered into a strategic partnership.
In the first stage, the two companies will jointly develop high performance software platforms for EDGE (Enhanced Data for Global Evolution) mobile terminals.
Complementing each other's expertise -- Comsys' in DSP algorithm development and Sasken's in wireless protocol stack software -- the partnership will enable the two companies to bring new mobile handset designs quickly and effectively to market, thereby cutting time to market for EDGE implementation. This will ensure that when EDGE mobile infrastructure is deployed -- first in North America and later in Asia and Europe -- EDGE handsets will be available to the general public.
Strategically, the partnership opens new vistas for both entities. Together they will be able to offer complete software reference designs reaching Layer 1, Layer 2 and Layer 3 features. Development work is also being undertaken in middleware components such as MMI (Man-Machine Interface) and MMS (Multimedia Messaging Services) that will translate to availability of end-to-end mobile software solutions for customers who wish to license the offerings.
