26th March 2002

Siemens AG said on Tuesday it had signed an agreement with Sweden's Tele2 Group to supply its Norwegian mobile network operator with third generation telecom equipment.

Siemens said in a statement that it would set up a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) radio network and supply UMTS core network technology to Tele2 AS, without disclosing the value of the deal.

The German group, supported by its partnership with Japan's NEC , has now concluded supply agreements for most of the major mobile carriers in Europe, the company said. Alongside voice, live images can be sent over UMTS networks.
