Qualcomm falls 4% on CDMA wireless expansion cuts

Shares of Qualcomm (QCOM) are sliding $1.60, or 4 percent, to $38.27. Analyst Gurinder Kalra at Bear Stearns noted that China United Telecommunications has decided to cut its plans to expand its code division multiple access (CDMA) mobile phone network by as much as half for the current year after demand fell short of expectations. Kalra said the company's had originally planned to add capacity for 20 million new users, but now, the addition could be just over 10 million. Qualcomm developed and receives royalties on the use of its CDMA technology.
