Multimedia Policy Engine Supports 3G LTE

UK : Camiant announced its support for Long Term Evolution (LTE) based mobile networks with a new release of its Multimedia Policy Engine (MPE) software. Camiant's policy platform, deployed by more than 20 mobile, fixed and cable operators worldwide is the first PCRF to support the new requirements defined in Release 8 of the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP*) standards. To help mobile operators cope with the tremendous surge in bandwidth demand, 3GPP has defined LTE in their Release 8, the most recently approved set of the global standards. LTE is expected to increase bandwidth by up to 20 times over current HSPA technology(1) with an estimated 70% lower cost per bit delivered.(2) LTE also introduces the Evolved Packet Core (EPC), an all IP architecture that provides operators with lower cost and more flexibility as IP-based services become dominant. According to a March 2009 study by the Global Mobile Suppliers Association, 26 network operators have committed to LTE systems, with up to 10 networks expected to launch commercial service in 2010.
Camiant's PCRF is a key infrastructure component enabling operators to have rules-based, real-time dynamic control over bandwidth, charging and usage. For example, operators may use the PCRF to provide special bandwidth and rating offers to more finely target particular market segments, or dynamically manage network congestion in order to control capital expenditures. Leveraging Camiant's excellence in standards, the newest version of its MPE will add support for the additional interfaces and rules defined in Release 8 including the S9 interface to enable roaming policies and Gxx interfaces used to control both 3GPP and non-3GPP access networks. Camiant's MPE will also support lawful intercept control functions as required by several operators.
