25th November , 2009

Europe : A number of Nokia 3G smartphones can now make use of a new fring application to make free video calls to other fring users and Skype contacts via a 3G or Wi-Fi connection. This is the first time in the world that mobile video calls can be made for free over IP ( internet protocol ).  See the video below to see how it works in full.

To summarise, this is the world’s first mobile video over mobile internet including fring and Skype mobile video calls. The new fring video facility is embedded into the basic fring application.

The Nokia 3G smartphones which can currently make use of the free mobile video calling are : Nokia N95, Nokia N95 8GB, Nokia 5800, Nokia N97 / Nokia N97 Mini and the new Nokia X6.

The new fring video facility is added to the fring application for free VoIP calls. The video version of fring is available currently on the Symbian operating system for Nokia devices only as listed above. It will become available for other operating platforms soon.

In addition, fring ( the non video supporting features )  supports thousands of handsets on multiple platforms including Symbian S60, iPhone/iPod touch, Android, Windows Mobile, J2ME and Linux devices.
