New 3G W-CDMA Tester Available

For Automated High Speed Measurement of RF Transmission / Reception Characteristic Test and Call Processing Test of W-CDMA Mobile Terminals conforming to 3GPP Standards

Anritsu Corporation (President: Akira Shiomi) announced that it is accepting orders from September1, 2002 for its new ME7876A Mobile Communication Test System. The system enables the automated testing of the RF[*1] transmission/reception characteristic and call processing of mobile terminals conforming to W-CDMA, one of 3rd generation mobile phone systems, performed in a batch at high speed. Also, measurement parameters for testing and test result data can be easily administrated.
The use of this system shortens the acquisition time of W-CDMA test methods and instrument control methods, which dramatically improves the efficiency of W-CDMA mobile terminal development and manufacturing line configuration.
This system can be utilized for wide range of applications from characteristic evaluation in R&D to characteristic inspection in manufacturing line and characteristic evaluation test in maintenance of W-CDMA mobile terminals.

[Development Background]
The 3rd generation mobile phone system targeting at worldwide standard, W-CDMA system, has domestically started its trial service from May 2001 and the actual service has been started from October 1. Accordingly, W-CDMA mobile terminal developers require the automation in production/inspection line of mobile terminals and automated test system configuration in maintenance site for efficiency.
Furthermore, under the expectation of mobile terminals equipped with new functions to be developed one after another, capital investment and test process with good efficiency is a key issue for manufacturers and carriers. Especially in manufacturing line and inspection/maintenance line, the measuring instruments with high-speed processing and excellent cost performance are strongly requested for more efficient line configuration.

To meet these requests, Anritsu provides the optimum solution for efficient development/manufacturing line and inspection/maintenance line configuration of mobile terminals by releasing the ME7876A Mobile Communication Test System, which was produced by know-how cultivated in the past system development.
At the same time, Anritsu aims to provide the total test solution for domestic and overseas W-CDMA mobile terminal development with our Signalling Tester, Digital Mobile Radio Transmitter Tester and Digital Modulation Signal Generator, etc. which are now available in the market.
For future, Anritsu is also planning to provide the test system solution to totally support 3GPP standards TS34.121.

[Product Outline]
ME7876A Mobile Communication Test System is composed of MT8820A Radio Communication Analyzer (Anritsu) and the dedicated software. This test system achieves RF transmission/reception test and call processing test of W-CDMA mobile terminals conforming to 3GPP standards performed at high speed on a single instrument.

The dedicated software programmed on the basis of Windows2000 can easily administrate measurement parameters for testing and test result data. Also, this dedicated software handles all the operations ranging from each setup for measurement to pass/fail evaluation of test results and data administration. Thus, the use of this system shortens the acquisition time of W-CDMA test methods and instrument control methods, which dramatically improves the efficiency of W-CDMA mobile terminal development and manufacturing line configuration.
In addition to various tests performable in communication (loop-back state) with W-CDMA mobile terminals to be tested, current consumption of W-CDMA mobile terminals can be tested with DC Power 2303 (KEYTHLEY).

MT8820A Radio Communication Analyzer is the measuring instrument that can perform high-speed RF transmission/reception test and call processing test of W-CDMA mobile terminals conforming to 3GPP standards on a single instrument. It achieves the batch measurement of major RF transmission test items at the fastest measurement speed in the world, approx. less than 0.2sec.

[Main Functions and Performance]
* Test methods freely selectable for each user and test data administration
Various tests can be selected such as automated batch measurement for all test items, manual measurement for selected items and step measurement for each item.
Also, transmission measurement easily performs the performance distribution evaluation and statistical administration of mobile terminals to be tested with /Avg./Max./Min. value display. Furthermore, html or CSV format is selectable for measurement data save format.
* Test parameter setup and administration simplified by excellent operability
The dedicated software helps to rearrange test procedures and to alter test parameters easily. Also, each altered operation parameter for testing can be saved in files and read out when necessary.
* Operation screens with excellent visibility
Software main operation screen enables simple visual confirmation. For instance, waveforms of measured characteristics, real-time test status information during test, and evaluation results after testing all items are displayed on an entire PC screen for at-a-glance confirmation.
* Software customizing
By making most of our know-how gained in the past system development, the functions with strong request from users are equipped as standard software functions. Also, the modularization of various measuring instrument drivers enables the structure that allows instruments to be added or altered easily. Thus the system can be configured (customized) according to each user’s request.
* Functions are equipped for high-speed batch measurement of RF transmission/reception characteristic and call processing test conforming to 3GPP standards in communication with W-CDMA mobile terminals to be tested.
