3G Alliance In Korea

Hitachi Semiconductor and Nextreaming Corporation, a Korean mobile multimedia solution provider, agreed to co-develop and market a solution to Korean handset makers who demand highly optimized multimedia capabilities on mobile devices utilizing Hitachi’s SH-Mobile chipset and middleware.

Hitachi and Nextreaming agreed to co-develop customized solutions (such as VOD, camera, video phone, MMS, MP3 player) for next-generation handset utilizing SH-Mobile chips by 3Q 2003.

Hitachi’s SH-Mobile chips are for 2.5G and 3G handsets and enable high-speed application execution by direct connection to baseband LSI’s. Hitachi chips have been adopted by many handset makers in Japan, Korea, America, and Europe. Nextreaming has been provided mobile multimedia solutions such as MPEG-4 encoder, streaming server worldwide.

Under the agreement, Hitachi will provide technical expertise on SH-Mobile chips and Nextreaming will provide multimedia applications specialized for SH-Mobile chips. Both companies will co-market their products to handset makers using the other’s sales network. Hitachi and Nextreaming plan sales internationally after successful development of the Korean handset market,.

Starting April 1, RENESAS Technology (Chairman & CEO: Koichi Nagasawa, President & COO: Satoru Ito), the merged company of Hitachi Semiconductor Group and Semiconductor Operations of Mitsubishi Electric will manage this agreement.
