Improved Bandwidth Management for Manx's 3G Network |
5th July, 2004 |
Inset above is the P2P Policy Management Element (PPE 8200) from Sandvine. As the popularity of bandwidth-intensive Internet applications continues to rise, Internet service providers increasingly face rising network costs and degradations to their subscribers' experiences. The difficulty service providers face is in managing this traffic in a subscriber-friendly way; many solutions negatively impact subscribers' freedom of choice and overall broadband experience. To address these challenges, Manx Telecom has elected to deploy Sandvine's award-wining technology as both a subscriber-friendly way of controlling network costs, and as a means of maintaining its unmatched level of service. "As the use of P2P file-sharing programs continues to increase, so does the need for a solution that allows us to identify and manage these types of very expensive and evasive traffic," said Graham Shimmin, Personal Communications Product Manager for Manx Telecom. "At the same time, we need to maintain and improve the online experience our customers demand. Sandvine technology allows us to accomplish both of these goals."
