3G Videotalk To PC for 3

Pacific : 3 announced the launch of Videotalk to PC, available only to 3 customers. Videotalk to PC allows customers to use their 3 mobile, when in 3's videozones to call any webcam and email enabled PC, both nationally and internationally, and see the person with whom they are talking.

Hutchison Director, Technology, Infrastructure and Services, Michael Young, said, "This is a very exciting application of 3's services, as it broadens the appeal of 3 to people outside of 3's Videozone areas within Australia. Further, Videotalk to PC will allow you to make video calls to your friends and family all over the world, even in the countries without 3G services."

Handsets immediately compatible with Videotalk to P C are the NEC606 and NEC808. An software upgrade will enable the Motorola A920. PC users will need to have a webcam and complete a one-time registration before being able to accept Videotalk calls from a 3 phone.

Videotalk to PC is built on the video gat eway system, a unique end-to-end solution supporting video telephony between personal computers and 3G videophones, supplied by Ericsson to 3 markets here and overseas.

The service is in operation in Italy and is due to launch shortly in Hong Kong. Calls to PCs are charged at national Videotalk rates.

The video gateway system solution is based on open standards and enables the use of advanced voice and video codecs, telephony services, user account management facilities and built in quality of service utilities.
