Overview

The iPhone 12 is one of Apple’s first 5G phones and that’s a big deal – if you want a 5G iPhone you’ll need one of the iPhone 12 range (or later if you’re reading this in the future), and 5G is worth having as it’s far, far faster than 4G.

There are loads of other upgrades here too though, including an A14 Bionic chipset, which Apple claims is the fastest smartphone chipset of 2020 – making this faster than any 2020 phone that’s not in the iPhone 12 range.

The screen is superb too. It’s a 6.1-inch OLED display, offering stunning visuals, complete with HDR10, a super-high 1200 nit max brightness, and Ceramic Shield protection. That makes the screen more durable than other smartphone displays, and the iPhone 12 also has better water resistance, as it can survive submersion up to 6 metres deep for up to 30 minutes.

The camera is another impressive aspect, as while its two lenses are dwarfed by the number offered by the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, they’re two excellent lenses. There’s a 12MP main one and a 12MP ultra-wide, and both work with Apple’s brilliant Night mode, so whatever type of shot you’re taking you can take it in low light with great results. In fact, you can even use Night mode on the 12MP selfie camera.

With secure facial recognition, wireless charging, up to 256GB of storage, and access to the best stocked app store around too, the iPhone 12 is a real marvel.
